The Gold Standard
First introduced in 1979, the Royal Canadian Mint’s Gold Maple Leaf (GML) is one of the world’s most popular bullion coins, with over 25 million troy ounces sold worldwide. It also set a global benchmark as the first bullion coin struck to 9999 fine purity.

Enhanced Security
The GML incorporates some of the most advanced security features in modern minting. Since 2017, the coin’s field has been engraved with precisely machined radial lines, accurate to within microns, ensuring consistent reproducibility and creating a distinctive light-diffracting pattern unique to the series.

In 2013, the Mint further enhanced the coin’s security with the addition of a textured maple leaf micro-engraving on the reverse. Applied using cutting-edge laser technology, this feature contains a small numeral at its centre—such as “17” for the 2017 issue—visible only under magnification, confirming the coin’s authenticity.
